The client envisioned a home with a commanding street presence that also serves as a dynamic social space. Rather than designing a closed-off fortress, we framed the monumental architecture with an interactive landscape. The exterior needed to function as an open-air gallery and a natural gathering point capable of hosting both intimate conversations and large events.
Heavy fluted stone defines the architectural language of this building. Left untouched, this massive material can easily feel cold. Our primary challenge was softening that imposing vertical scale to create welcoming, human-centric thresholds. We also integrated a comprehensive lighting and climate strategy directly into the architecture to preserve the clean lines. Greenery had to be utilized not as simple decoration, but as a primary building material to actively shape the space.
Approach the main entrance and notice how the scale immediately shifts. Trailing vines cascade from deep overhangs to filter the harsh sunlight and naturally drop the temperature. Move into the private courtyard to find a towering vertical green wall framing the central fire pit. This dense botanical backdrop turns the outdoor lounge into a vibrant social anchor. The final result is a masterfully crafted pavilion built for connection.
